Hi,

I'm just guessing here with my answer but it is a very calculated guess.
I guess that when you do only a test to the Squibs, this is the only thing you do (test the squibs ).
However, when you press the FIRE/OVHT TEST switch many things happens like
introduced fire / overheat signal to the engines, APU, wheel well, cargo and wing bleed duct leak detectors,
fire bell sounds,
master warning, APU & engines fire shutoff handles, fuel control switches and FWD & AFT CARGO FIRE lights illuminate,
and messages are displayed on the upper EICAS.

So, as you can see, there are many differences.
